Raw to Ready: How to Process a Fleece for Spinning or Felting

Learn the whys & hows of preparing a raw fleece to spin or felt in this  introductory class with Melanie Perkins of Spindles & Flyers Spinning Guild.  

Part 1: 10:30am-12: WASHING

Learn skirting on a skirting table.  Learn different types of wool.  Learn the difference between washing different types of sheep's wool and alpaca or mohair.  We'll practice on Scottish Blackface & Olde English Babydoll, as well as alpaca.  We'll also talk about suint washing and storage. $60 plus $15 materials fee.  Deposit required by June 1 for registration.

Part 2: 12:30-3pm: CARDING

Learn the difference between spinning a clean fleece vs spinning "in the grease" or "spinning in the dirt", and the difference between preparing different types of sheep's wool and alpaca.  Learn teasing, picking, carding, & combing.  We'll practice on Scottish Blackface & Olde English Babydoll, as well as alpaca.  

$60 plus $15 materials fee.  Deposit required by June 1 for registration.
