Learn about the unique qualities and process of indigo dyeing, along with dye techniques that take advantage of the indigo's special nature. Students will:
Learn about the process of how to make and maintain an indigo vat.
Experiment with itajime (clamp dyeing), shibori (tie dyeing), and ombre (gradient dyeing) with fabric provided by the instructor. Dye a couple garments or pieces of fabric brought by each student. Silk, cotton, and rayon work best. Wool and linen are okay, synthetics will not dye.

Teacher Bio: Ashley Eva Brock is a dyer, clothing/costume designer, and fiber artist living in Bolinas CA. She has worked as a dyer for the San Francisco Opera, has done costume design and fabrication for music videos and film, and sells limited edition hand made clothing.
