Led by veteran natural dyer Monica Paz Soldan, of Tiny Textiles, this natural dye class will focus on colors and techniques for dyeing fabric & clothing. Each participant will get a small 50 yard hank of local wool. We'll have 2-3 dye vats to choose colors from (likely madder, fennel, & indigo but plants sometimes make their own decisions). Weather permitting, we'll take a walk & wildcraft for color --by honorable harvest-- for the last dye pot. Students are encouraged to bring their own fabric/clothing for practicing shibori or straight dyeing: wool takes dye best, but cotton also works. Be advised that synthetic materials do not absorb natural dyes very well. Bring a lunch and/or bring a bowl and potluck item-- Monica will also bring a winter vegetable stew to share.
